About Parkland Elementary Wrestling
Parkland Elementary Wrestling is a K-6 youth wrestling program for boys and girls. The program participates in the Valley Elementary Wrestling League (VEWL). The VEWL comprises approximately (30) schools/programs within the Lehigh Valley and is home to some of the best and most competitive youth wrestling in the country. The Parkland program has a long history of success and a mission to develop young children in a positive environment that builds character, sportsmanship, and work ethic while promoting the great sport of wrestling.
DIVISIONS The program is divided into three divisions; Novice, JV and Varsity. These divisions allow for athletes to compete against wrestlers of similar age and skill levels throughout the season. The Novice division is comprised of athletes K-3rd, with less than two years of wrestling experience. JV may be those 4th-6th grade, with one-two years of experience, beyond Novice. The Varsity level consists of 4th-6th graders with additional years of experience, or wrestlers that compete at a higher level. The program as a whole is developmental in nature; however, the Varsity level is competitive on both the dual and individual front. The season generally runs from the beginning of November through February and many athletes continue their wrestling through various local and state tournaments following the VEWL season. Each team has their own Novice, JV, and Varsity level and coaches for each. Although there are two separate teams, it is one program and the teams practice together, using both the OMS and PHS facilities. The arrangement of two teams allows for greater participation on the dual schedule, while the combination of the teams in practice creates one unified Parkland Team, establishing consistency as the athletes move on from the elementary program to the Parkland middle school program. The program has had numerous successes over the years of participating in the VEWL. In 2022-2023, both the Red and Gray teams won their respective divisions! In 2019-2020 the Red team went undefeated with a 15-0 record, en route to becoming the South Division Champions. The VEWL has been known to produce very high caliber wrestlers, so these are great recent achievements. COACHES This success is attributed to the athletes first and foremost and is a product of excellent booster club support and most importantly the dedicated and skilled volunteer coaching staff who train and develop the young athletes. The coaching staff is headed by a number of former collegiate level wrestlers, that include colleges such as, Penn State University, Harvard University, Brown University, Lehigh University, and many more. Every year, there is a new influx of experienced coaches that fill the ranks. This experience and love for the sport provides an excellent baseline for teaching the sport of wrestling, but also developing the characteristics of high performing athletes. PEWBC The program is backed by Parkland Elementary Wrestling Booster Club (PEWC). The PEWBC ensures the program has all of the resources and support in order to provide the athletes and families with the best experience possible. The PEWBC’s main objective is to promote the sport of wrestling and enhance the current and future participation in the sport. The booster club also works to support the Parkland middle and high school programs in a variety of ways. JOIN US!
